I have registered an international .net domain name and was just wondering at the vast difference in registration and hosting the .com/.net vs .tz domains offered by Tanzanian companies.

I would have thought .com would be much costlier than .tz not the other way around

I suppose thats a very common expectation.

However, think about it. How many .net's have been registered in the world? Compare them to how many .tz's have been registered.

A large part of running a registry involves fixed costs that do not increase with number of registrations. The more the number of registered domains, the lesser the share of fixed cost per domain.
