As-Salaam alaikum,
We have read it in ayat 114 of Surta Hud of the Holy Qur'an (11:114), where Allah Ta'ala says:--
"INNAL HASANATI YUZHIBBAS SAYYI'AT... INDEED, THE GOOD ACTS REMOVE SINS".
Thus Goodness takes out sins; when you say 'ASTAGHFIRULLAH' it takes away your sin and for every hasanat, Allah gives you 10 and for every sin, He gives only one. And when you/we say ASTAGHFIRULLAH, you get 10 hasanat.
Allah Tabaraka Wa Ta'ala makes the heart of the sincere person to always make ISTIGHFAR... to always say ALHAMDULILLAH, SHUKRAN-LILLLAH... to regularly be reciting the 4 phrases Allah loves: SUBHANALLAH; WALHAMDULILLAH; WALAAILAHA ILLALLAH; WALLLAHU AKBAR. With that, our hearts get rejuvenated and ready to receive Allah's Light and Blessings.
