Four men were last night shot dead along the Mombasa - Malindi highway about four hundred meters from where controversial cleric Sheikh Aboud Rogo was killed in September last year.
The four men, Sheikh Ibrahim Ismael, Abrumaisa Omar, Salim Aboud and Gaddafi Mohammed were in a vehicle when unknown occupants of another vehicle sprayed theirs with bullets. A survivor of the attack, Aboud Said who was with the four slain men, told of how the unknown assailants exited their car and shot at all five men to ensure they were dead before driving off.
The four men, all who had links with Rogo, have already been buried at the Kiziwi cemetery, the same place where Rogo was buried. Kisauni police boss Julius Wanjohi confirmed the incident but refused to divulge more information. County commandant Robert Kitur also confirmed the incident but denied police involvement. “We were just alerted like anybody else about the shooting incident and we dispatched a response team to the scene. It was not a planned incident. We have launched investigations,” he said.
Sheikh Makaburi another ally of late Rogo was among those who arrived at the scene and condemned the murder. Makaburi blamed police for the alleged execution of the four accusing the government of killing innocent Muslims in pretext of fighting terrorism. He said the four had no connection with recent terrorist attack at Westgate in Nairobi where at least 70 people were killed and scores injured during the terrorism attack. He blamed government for alleged extra judicial killing of the four and many others including Rogo in their war on terror.
