Salams..

Of late we have noticed a huge rise in consumerism within our community in particular and the whole world at large.

This coming Mahe Ramadan felt like everyone is trying to sell Ramadhan Kareem products and gift hampers etc. and now halfway through the holy month already trying to sort out Eid gifts! I find it very distracting when I’m trying to scroll through social media for Islamic and spiritual content to be constantly bombarded with all this and unfortunately get diverted into Eid shopping already when we haven’t even gone through the spiritual ascension nights. It’s a little premature really.

We are spending so much time and efforts into this physical gratification rather than try and get closer to Allah by other forms of Recommendations in this holy month - mainly focus on spiritual ascension and securing the akhirah.

Gift giving is highly recommended I understand but this I find is a bit more than that. Way too much time and money is being spent unnecessarily with this excuse.

Just posting some thoughts 😊

The people who run these businesses will argue that all they are doing is marketing their products and services, just like any other business would.

Can they be blamed for trying to run a successful business?
