When Imam Ali (AS) was struck by the poisoned sword of Ibn Muljam while prostrating in Fajr prayer on the 19th of Ramadan, he famously exclaimed:
"Fuztu wa Rabbil Ka'bah" (فُزْتُ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ)
This translates to "By the Lord of the Ka'bah, I have succeeded!"
These words reflect Imam Ali’s deep faith and devotion, showing that he saw his martyrdom as a victory, as it meant returning to Allah after a life of unwavering justice, sacrifice and truth.
Before his martyrdom, Imam Ali (AS) recited the following Quranic verse:
"فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَضَىٰ نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَنْتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا"
"Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah; some of them have fulfilled their vow (to the death), and some are still waiting, but they have never changed (their commitment) in the least."
(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:23)
This verse reflects Imam Ali’s unwavering faith and his fulfillment of his duty to Allah and Islam.
The children of Kufa became orphans after the martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS) because he was known for personally caring for the poor, especially orphans. As Imam Ali A.S, he would go out at night, often in disguise, to deliver food, take care of the needy, and ensure that no one went hungry.
Many of the children in Kufa only realized after his death that it was Imam Ali (AS) who had been secretly providing for them.
