Imam Zain ul-Abideen (Ali ibn Husayn) was the fourth Imam of the Ahlul Bayt. He was born on 5 th Shabaan and was the son of Imam Husayn ibn Ali and the great-grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He was given the title Zain ul-Abideen ("Ornament of the Worshippers") and As-Sajjad ("The One Who Prostrates Often") because of his deep devotion to prayer and supplication.
His famous collection of supplications, Sahifa Sajjadiya, is considered a masterpiece of Islamic spirituality and a guide for seeking closeness to Allah.
His Sahifa Sajjadiya is not just a book of supplications; it’s a deeply coded spiritual manifesto that teaches justice, self-purification, and reliance on Allah. He used du'as as a way to educate people at a time when open teaching was dangerous.
A deeply moving fact about him is that he would personally carry sacks of food to the homes of the poor at night, ensuring they had sustenance without knowing who helped them. It was only after his passing that people realized their silent benefactor had been the Imam himself.
This act reflects not just charity, but a level of humility and service.
